Find DNS Servers in the network
And
One Click to determine if they are open or close for everyone
DNSLocator will find for you the DNS servers in any subnet
DNSLocator will determine if anyone can submit queries to them or not
- A badly configured DNS server at your network can cause your internet connection to be very slow as unauthorized users will use your DNS publicly.
- DNS server that allow everyone to submit any kind of queries can allow (unintentionally) illegal activities.
- If your DNS is open then it might be vulnerable to other threats as well.
Why should I worry if my DNS is publicly open or not?
Let's assume that I am a security person who is trying to penetrate a "remote site"(what's that got to do with my DNS??!!?! oh oh ...just wait...)
The first part in my job would be to collect as many details as possible about the servers in that "remote site", and to do so I will (probably) first try to run some DNS queries (in order not to directly scan the "remote site" subnet).
Of course it would be easy to do so with my ISP's DNS server , but why would I take the risk to be discovered so easily?
So, I will use your DNS server, I can surely assumed that if you didn't configure it properly and you let me use it as it was mine ,
then you are probably not collecting any log files, so I'm pretty safe now....
Hope you got the picture by now, time to download the DNSLocator and double check yourself...
